Top places to see on a high school trip to Italy.

On your next overseas travels with your students here are some of the top places to see on a high school trip to Italy. Build your program to match your trip objectives.

1. The Last  Supper in Milan

See one of Da Vinci's masterpieces painted from 1495 to 1498 at this convent's museum. Student try to unlock its mysteries many say are hidden in the painting. The perspective used in the painting is one of its main achievements. Ultimately it is an artistic marvel.

2. Ride a Gondola. Venice is a unique place to discover

Ride Venice's canals in one of the 400 remaining gondolas. They are unique handcrafted  embarkations of wood and metal. Learn about one of the most important pieces of the boat (after the gondolier of course), the forcola.

3. Assisi

Birthplace of the patron Saint of Italy, St-Francis in 1181. The Basilica of St. Francis is a massive, 2-level church, consecrated in 1253. See frescoes dating back to the 13th century. As you you are in Umbria, make sure to sample some local olive oil. 

4. Pompeii

Witness the aftermath of Mount Vesuvius' eruption in 79 A.D.. As a result of this the city you see stands still in time. The preserved site features excavated ruins of streets and houses. Here visitors can freely explore what was left as a result of the massive devastation.

5. Ferrari Factory

Enzo's enduring legacy is the iconic horse. Ferraris are hand made cars with a worldwide reputation. Firstly, you learn more about how they are built. Secondly,  you we get to see some of the most famous cars designed. Ultimately you get to see some of the world champion Formula 1 cars.

6. Colosseum in Rome

This unique venue held 50 to 80000 people for events like gladiatorial combat. Recreations of naval battles would be accomplished by flooding the main arena. You see the remains of this still imposing arena because over the years stones were used for different projects as it was left unused,

7. Museo de'll Accademia

See Michelangelo's incredible David. David was originally commissioned as one of a series of statues of prophets. They were to be positioned along the roofline of the east end of Florence Cathedral

8.  The Duomo

Also known as the Florence's cathedral. Its actual name is Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore. It was structurally completed by 1436, and so its signature dome designed by Filippo Brunelleschi would become an iconic landmark.

9. Amalfi Coast

The scenic splendor of this region is memorable for a first time discovery or returning travelers.

10. The Vatican is one of the top places to see on any trip to Italy

This city state is located on the banks of the Tiber. The Vatican is the headquarters of the Roman Catholic church and the Holy See. Within its walls your students see: St-Peter's Basilica and Square and the Vatican Gardens and Museum. Above all,  see the famous Sistine Chapel home of Michelangelo's ceiling fresco.
