Ferrari Factory and Museum |
The old and the newWe had scheduled to visit, to break up the drive from Venice to Florence. The idea was to change the pace of the school trip to Italy. After a deep dives into renaissance art and history it was a stop into the modern side of Italy's history. The Doge Palace, Gondola rides, Leonardo's Last Supper and St Mark’s Basilica were all great features for the students on the high school trip to Italy... but we thought another iconic piece of 20th century art would be to visit the factory of the legendary brand of handmade cars. As we got there the anticipation was high for all aboard the motorcoaches. We were all...seeing “red”, Ferrari Red.Ferrari is a legendary brand around the world with a remarkable history in Italy and motorcar racing. The MuseumThe museum takes students on a journey from the early years of the first cars through the present. Tracing the lines of the ‘civilian’ cars ,to the super cars, and the race cars that we all know so well. The museum tour guides share their passion for the cars, even how they are handcrafted and produced. From the origins of the red color, to the prancing horse in the logo. The group then walked through the museum to see the variety of cars. There is a great section on the Formula 1 cars.. From Niki Lauda, Gilles Villeneuve and of course Michael Schumacher’s title winning rides. During the tour, students can learns about the story of how locals would stop along the road during early mornings to watch, as Villeneuve would drive to the factory. Wall to wall red cars surround the group, video and sound in the room overwhelmed and created such a vibe. We highly recommend the Ferrari Museum and Factory tour for any school trip to Italy. It is a change of speed during the students discovery and re-energized the group as we continued on our Italian educational tour. |
